EARS-UP FEMALE
2018
A piece made for a friend. His dog is losing her eyesight and I made this for him to cheer him up. It’s based off a photograph he took, so I can’t take credit for the excellent composition, but I’m very proud of how I captured the varying colours throughout her body. I feel like it it encourages the eyes to keep moving around the painting

SILK FOX
2017
In the spring of 2017 I took a few silk painting workshops with an independent artist. I had never watched the process of silk painting before, and was excited to learn it behaves very similarly to watercolour! Still, it had it's own unique quirks that I enjoyed. This was my piece from the final workshop.

GARDEN BIRDHOUSE
2017
My grandfather made a birdhouse and gave it to me, it was plain wood before I painted it. I came up with the black and white flower design so that it would stand out in a colourful garden.

TULIPS
2016
Mom gave me a bouquet of tulips from her garden, so I decided to paint them for mother's day. I also got my hands on some gouache, which I had never used before (but was very familiar with watercolour which is fairly similar). Something about the arrangement of the flowers inspired me to play with the composition and styling.

BLOSSOM
2015
I had been playing a video game that had a beautiful artistic style akin to Japanese ink paintings. I was given wooden canvas as a present and I’ve never painted watercolour on wood before, so this started out as an experiment and I was pleased with how it turned out.

DISCO MOUSE
2014
In 2014 I took two acrylic classes taught by a local artist. After several life studies, this was my first original piece. It’s an illustration of my pet mouse and an experiment with colour. I hung it up on my wall at home, and guests always comment on it, so I decided to include it in my portfolio

ADAM
2014
Myself, Adam, and Christina are a trio of close friends. Their birthdays are only days apart, so I painted Adam for Christina, and Christina for Adam. That way, they’d each have a picture of one trio member created by the other, and in a way all three of us could be together even when apart.

PAINTINGS
Paintings are the pieces I end up doing the most often. I usually do them as presents for other people, but occasionally create them for myself or for a gallery submission. My favourite mediums are watercolour and ink as they can be unpredictable and hard to control, creating surprising results and forcing me to work with my mistakes!
